1. Squirrel SQL Client
In this post I will show you how to connect to Informix database using Squirrel SQL client. First thing we gonna need is:
1. Squirrel SQL Client
Squirrel SQL client is written in Java language so obviously you need to
have Java installed in your machine. Once installed, you can proceed to
download Squirrel SQL client from HERE. Run the installer and follow the on screen instructions.
2. Check Necessary Requirements
Run the Squirrel SQL client. Go to 'Drivers' tab. Check whether there is blue check mark next to 'Informix'.
If there is no blue check mark, most probably you don't have the extra class for Informix.
Go HERE to download the extra class. Extract the zip file to get the jar archive.
If there is no Informix driver at all, do install the driver first. Get it from HERE. Run the setup.exe and follow the instructions.
If you see blue check mark, do proceed with step number 4.
3. Configure Extra Class Path
Right click on Informix, select Modify option. Click on Extra Class Path tab, click Add and point to the jar file. Dont forget to fill your database information in Example URL. Click Open, then OK.
If there is no Informix driver at all, do install the driver first. Get it from HERE. Run the setup.exe and follow the instructions.
If you see blue check mark, do proceed with step number 4.
3. Configure Extra Class Path
4. Configure Aliases
Go to aliases tab, click plus sign to add new alias. Give a name for your new alias and choose Informix driver. Automatically the URL will be filled out. Make sure it is correct. Fill in your database username and password. Click Test to test the connection. If everything goes well, you can connect to your database straight away.

Solution: Double Scrollbar Problem in Google Chrome Browser
Have you guys updated your Google Chrome browser only to found out there is a bug with scrollbar?
Recently, I've downloaded the Google Chrome and found out that on certain websites, the scrollbar becomes doubled (see picture below).
For me, it is quite annoying because I had to put my cursor on the right scrollbar AND leveled with the left scrollbar. Or to be exact, everything (checkbox, submit button etc2) I have to click a little bit to the right.
Fortunately, with a bit of Googling, I've found a way to solve this.
1. Open up your Google Chrome browser. Point the address bar to "chrome://plugins"
2. Find a Flash plugin that named as "pepflashplayer.dll". If you installed a lot of olugins and having some trouble finding it, press "Ctrl + F" and find the plugin name mentioned before.
3. And then click "Disable". Restart the Chrome and try whether it works. It works for me by the way :)

Shutter Speed vs. FPS
Before this, I have a problem understanding the differences between shutter speed and frame per seconds while recording video in DSLR. So, I assumed it's not important. IT IS differs and important especially when you want to record fast moving action.
In short:
Shutter speed: How much each frame is exposed to the light source.
FPS: How many frames are recorded each seconds
See the details explanation below.
Thanks.

Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8 - 4 DC OS HSM
My last lens were Sigma 18-200mm DC OS HSM. I've been use it for a while and I really enjoyed the lens especially its wide focal range feature. However, like many wide-tele superzoom lens, it's prone to produce poor image quality and unsharp image and this lens is not spared from the problem. And don't forget this lens is damn heavy and you need to have super stable hands to be able to stabilize it.
Recently, I've sold the lens and seeking for new lens to try. I'm eyeing for standard zoom lens now and two lenses are really captured my attention. First one is Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 and another one is Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4. To compare:
Lets start with Tamron first. This one is non VC (vibration compensation). Tamron also got another similar lens with VC but with higher price tag. I really like the fixed maximum aperture on this lens. No matter wide or tele you go on it, the maximum aperture still at f/2.8 and that's really useful in low light condition. It also cheaper by around 37% from the competitor lens. The Sigma on the other hands, offers you extra focal length up to 70mm but at that focal length, the aperture is at f/4.0 ono.
Lets talk about autofocus. The Tamron has old-fashioned internal focus motor and it does produce quite load(but not disturbing for me at least) noise. Sigma however, implemented HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) that resulting in quick and silent autofocus. In term of focus decisive, both is perform well. Image quality also more or less the same.
For the optical stabiliser, you can opt for similar Tamron lens with VC but I think you may not need it because the maximum aperture is fixed and you can easily snap with higher shutter speed. Just use the rule of thumb. At 50mm, use at least 1/50 shutter speed. I've tried both lens and Tamron really allow us to use this rules and minimizing blurriness. You get Optical Stabiliser with Sigma though. One thing with OS/VS on both lens is, you really need to wait until the stabiliser settle itself before actually snapping a photo. If not, the result can be uglier than not using stabiliser.
To make thing short, I chose the Sigma simply because I want the extra focal length, HSM and macro capability although it's not 1:1 macro. I don't want to have similar focal length as kit lens thats why I'm not very keen with Tamron. If you're on budget constraint though, choose the Tamron. You won't go wrong with it.

Install Memtest on USB Pendrive
Memtest86 and Memtest86+ are open source memory test software programs designed to test and stress test an x86 architecture computer's random access memory (RAM) for errors. Each tries to verify that the RAM will accept and correctly retain arbitrary patterns of data written to it, and that there are no errors where different bits of memory interact, and there are no conflicts between memory addresses.
To install into memory stick is quite simple and straightforward. You need a USB pendrive / memory stick that are empty and formatted. This tools does helped me when my desktop frequently goes into BSOD. I used the tool and figured out that my RAM module have problems.
Go to HERE and download the Auto-installer for USB Key (Win 9x/2k/xp/7). Run the installer and follow the given steps.
To boot into Memtest tools, be sure to boot from your USB pendrive.

DIY: Making My Own Charcoal Chimney
Recently my class decided to held a picnic by the lake at Section 7, Shah Alam. So I thought to learn how to efficiently start the charcoal without using much energy and time. So, I've done a little Googling and found a solution I would like to try. It is called a 'Charcoal Chimney'. Here's what Wikipedia got on the term: "...is a device that is used to set either lump charcoal or charcoal briquettes alight."
Since the chimney can be easily DIY, so I thought to give it a try.
